Sample outputs from Random Warm-up Activity

A slice of what this picker might return. The full pool is much larger — tap the picker for a random one.

  • 3-2-1 recap — 3 facts from last lesson, 2 questions you have, 1 thing you're looking forward to
  • Would you rather — themed to the subject
  • Odd one out — 3 things on the board, students pick + justify
  • 1-minute silent write — "What do you already know about X?"
  • Match the term to the definition (pairs work)
  • Prediction — read one sentence of a story, predict what happens
  • Quick-fire quiz — 5 questions, mini-whiteboards, everyone answers
  • Retrieval bingo — 9-box grid of last lesson's content
  • True or false — 5 statements about the topic, students vote by standing
  • Two-word summary — students summarise last lesson in exactly two words
  • Free association — teacher says a key word, class shouts related terms
  • "What does this remind you of?" — an unusual image related to the lesson

When to use Random Warm-up Activity

  • Cold-calling a random student without accusations of bias.
  • Splitting groups fairly for group work or team activities.
  • Reward selection at end of a good lesson or week.
  • When you specifically want randomness — not a "recommendation engine", not a ranking, just an unbiased pick.

How the picker works

Random Warm-up Activity runs entirely in your browser — no servers, no accounts, no data sent anywhere. Each pick uses your browser's built-in cryptographic random-number generator (window.crypto.getRandomValues), which is uniformly distributed across the option pool.

The pool for this picker: 15 hand-picked options. Every option has an equal probability of being selected on any given pick (about 6.67% per option).

Picker-kind picks return a single random option from the pool. If you add your own options, they're weighted equally alongside the built-in set.

If you want a deliberately weighted pick (favouring some options over others), the picker isn't the right tool — try structuring the choice as a wheel with duplicated entries, or split into two picks (category first, then item within category).

About this category

Classroom pickers are the highest-utility tools on the site. Teachers use them daily for cold-calling, group generation, brain breaks, reward selection and behaviour management.

Everything here is deployment-tested — TES-compliant, GDPR-safe (no student data leaves the browser), works on smartboards and tablets.
