How it works
- Click Generate — a random presentation topic is produced.
- Filter by subject (history, science, current affairs, abstract).
- Filter by depth (60-second flash topic, 5-minute presentation, full-lesson research project).
Why use this tool
- Stops the "I don't know what to do mine on" excuse dead.
- Curated to topics with genuine substance — not "your favourite colour."
- Mix of subjects pushes students out of safe-topic comfort zones.
When to use it
- Year 7-9 oracy lessons — random topic, 60s prep, 90s present.
- GCSE Computer Science presentations — paired with a peer.
- Form-time activities — quick presentations as a community-building routine.
- Sixth-form public-speaking practice — increase topic randomness as students get more confident.

How the picker works
Presentation Topic Generator runs entirely in your browser — no servers, no accounts, no data sent anywhere. Each pick uses your browser's built-in cryptographic random-number generator (window.crypto.getRandomValues), which is uniformly distributed across the option pool.
The pool for this picker: 15 hand-picked options. Every option has an equal probability of being selected on any given pick (about 6.67% per option).
Picker-kind picks return a single random option from the pool. If you add your own options, they're weighted equally alongside the built-in set.
If you want a deliberately weighted pick (favouring some options over others), the picker isn't the right tool — try structuring the choice as a wheel with duplicated entries, or split into two picks (category first, then item within category).
Related pickers + when to prefer each
Presentation Topic Generator is one of several related pickers on the site. The rest of this cluster covers adjacent decisions:

School Debate Topics Picker — the closest neighbour when this picker isn't quite the right fit.
Classroom Question Picker — the closest neighbour when this picker isn't quite the right fit.
All picks are independent — running one picker doesn't influence the others.
About this category
Classroom pickers are the highest-utility tools on the site. Teachers use them daily for cold-calling, group generation, brain breaks, reward selection and behaviour management.
Everything here is deployment-tested — TES-compliant, GDPR-safe (no student data leaves the browser), works on smartboards and tablets.
